Talk:Digital divides

From BeyondVoting

Two friends of mine (Brian CS Sanders, Ted Ernst) told me about a project somewhere in the world where, at a Community Center, they got people to understand the use of the computers.

What I mean is: People were saying, "Why are the computers useful? Why would we use these things? Can't we just talk here?" I don't know the particulars, but I heard tht they set aside a computer room. In the computer room, people could watch other people use the computers, learn how it happened, and see the communications that took place. They had a problems-and-previous-solutions website that they shared with other community groups, and people saw how they had helped each other solve problems. Then they understood the utility of the computers.

I recognize this is sketchy help, I'm just recounting something I overheard my friends saying in a car.

Perhaps you'd like to talk with these two; I think they'd be interested. They can bring you specifics.
